Description
Completed in July of 2007, our winery and hospitality facility embodies the realization of a longtime dream for our family. Located on our Rutherford estate, the winery is surrounded by our vineyards, allowing the fruit to arrive cool and in pristine condition at harvest. At the winery, these exceptional grapes benefit from a careful blend of artisan techniques and cutting-edge technology. This approach includes hand-sorting the grapes twice, and fermenting and aging specific vineyard blocks individually to maintain their distinctive character. To further ensure quality, this time and labor-intensive approach benefits from the use of select technologies such as our winery’s custom-built fermentors, which continuously regulate temperatures to the ideal level.
In addition to being the perfect home for our small-lot winemaking, our winery is also a place where we can share our excellent wines in a beautiful and comfortable setting. With a lovely second story tasting lounge and a covered terrace offering panoramic views of the vineyards and the Mayacamas Mountains, our winery makes an ideal destination in the heart of the Napa Valley. We invite you to explore our delicious tour and tasting options!
Round Pond Estate Interior Designer Stephen Jones discusses the vision behind the Winery Tasting Room:
“When I was working with Ryan and Miles on the design of the interior of the Round Pond tasting room, we knew that we had a great opportunity to create an exciting but intimate and welcoming space for visitors to the winery. The simplicity and solidity of the building with its exposed fir beams and columns could be an urban loft set down on the floor of Napa Valley. Industrial, rustic chic was our focus when selecting the finishes and furnishings for the space. The building materials are simple and honest, textured slate floors, troweled plaster walls, raw sandblasted wood timbers, and iron hardware. Repurposed factory tool tables grouped with simple sturdy modern seating are gathering spots for groups and individuals to sample and enjoy the wines, olive oils and produce from the vineyard. I think the design of the building, interiors, terraces and landscaping is a reflection of the MacDonnell families connection to the land and surroundings, it is natural, relaxed, comforting and you just know the wine and food is going to be fantastic.”
Notes of licorice and tarragon on the finish lead to fine-grained tannins that effortlessly round this young, yet so approachable Cabernet.
